FAQ
What can a handyman do?
Basically, a handyman will do the jobs that you can’t do yourself but you don’t need a specialised professional for. A handyman can also do more than one maintenance task around the home in the same visit, so you don’t need to hire two or three people to tick off the tasks on your To Do list.
What can’t a handyman do?
While there are lots of jobs a handyman can help with, there are some jobs that require a licensed tradesman. Baz won’t tackle any work that may affect the structural soundness of your house. Also, while he can change a lightbulb, unblock a toilet or change a washer to fix a leaking tap, he leaves major electrical and plumbing work to the licensed professionals.
Employ a licensed electrician to do any electrical work, even if it is as minor as replacing a power cord or adding a new power socket. You also need to call a licensed plumber for the majority of plumbing work around the house. However, Baz’il tackle small jobs such as changing tap washers and unblocking the loo.
How much will it cost?
Bazil charges each job according to what’s involved. He doesn’t have a fancy office or staff to maintain, so his overheads are small – he’ll only charge you for the parts you need and the time it takes him to do the job.
All quotes are provided within two days (were possible) of inspecting your property by email or they can be sent by post.
Mileage is additional for jobs further afield but Bazil always tries to combine jobs to minimise time and travel costs.
How far will you travel?
Baz’il Fix It is based in the Upper Hunter Valley and is a regular in Muswellbrook, Aberdeen, Denman and Scone. He regularly travels to Singleton, Cessnock and Maitland.
Bazil will also travel further afield and always tries to combine jobs to reduce travelling time and costs.
What do I need to think about?
As with any professional, ask the right questions before you accept the first quote you receive. Bazil can give you references or contact details for previous clients if you want to check his track record. Don’t necessarily go with the handyman that gives you the cheapest price – you always need to feel comfortable with the person you are letting into your home to carry our repairs and maintenance. And you want to feel sure they will do a good job, without cutting corners.
Any handyman needs to be insured to carry out work at your property. Make sure to ask about the relevant insurances before anyone starts work. A handyman should also be accredited and hold the appropriate qualifications to carry out their tasks.
